Condolence message by Dr Vinod Saksena – on behalf of the           GMC Alumni U.K. to our departed colleagues and teachers.
(Get together on Saturday, 17 September, Leicester)

Friends, no one can get over the loss of one’s loved ones.
You just learn to live with their loss. Since our last get together in 2019, here in the U.K., we have lost two valuable and highly respected members of our Alumni – Ashok Gargav and Kailash Khare.

Sadly, Ashok passed away on 15 July 2020. He bravely and with dignity fought an incurable illness.

You will recall that he was always the life of our get togethers. Ashok belonged to the 1959 batch and he had been living here for almost 45 years. He was a successful General Practitioner and he also had the Honour of being appointed Justice of Peace in Reading – he held this prestigious position for decades.

Ashok devoted a lot of his time to various charities, both in the U.K. and in India.

His amazing ingenuity in expressing words or ideas, his words of wisdom and his modesty despite his phenomenal all round success, will always be remembered by everyone who knew him.

Ashok was instrumental in reviving our Alumni in 1991 before we went into hibernation several years later, only to be revived again by a newer group.

Ashok leaves behind, the equally popular Archna bhabhiji, caring daughter Babli, son Gopal and daughter-in-law, Caverna and loving grandchildren.

Kailash Khare sadly passed way peacefully on 8 April this year after a brief illness.

Kailash was from the 1957 batch. I knew him for almost 65 years.
I would describe him as a gentleman amongst gentlemen. And he was a singer too.
Kailash had travelled widely and he was a great company.

Kailash served the NHS for nearly 40 years and he retired as a successful General Practitioner in Essex.

He leaves behind Tara bhabhiji and two talented sons and adorable grandchildren.

Friends, on behalf of all of us, I would also like to pay tribute to our colleagues outside the U.K. who sadly passed away, most of them in the prime of their youth, with their promising future cut short by the cruel destiny.

I want their loved ones to know that we too are grieving with them.

Finally, my friends, let all of us pay our most respectful homage to the memory of esteemed teachers who have left for their Heavenly abode.

They moulded our careers, inspired us and helped us achieve whatever we have today.

Message from General Secretary of             UK Chapter of  GMC Graduates

Known as the ‘Bhopal Graduate Association’ – we are a group of ex-students from Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal who have settled in the UK. Ours is a close-knit community of about 150 doctors and their families.

It has been a while since our happy days in GMC. We have moved away and now live abroad but value immensely the role GMC has  played in our lives. Over the years our numbers have swelled and the association is now a mature, structured organization. We hold the popular annual functions on the lines of what we saw as students in GMC all those years ago.

These ‘annual gatherings’ are much-awaited events. Hugely popular and great fun, on view are Bhopalis of all generations. We have had representations from the very first batch of our college, the most senior GMC-graduate and also great grand children born here in the UK who have never been to Bhopal. The venues are moved every year, taking the group all round the country. We have met in a medieval castle in Birmingham, a chic modern hotel in Manchester,  serene valley in Wales, and we have been into the far reaches of Scotland ! We have held boat parties on the Thames for GMC Golden and Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Flyers from our previous events will give you a glimpse of the way we enjoy these gatherings. It is sheer fun, ‘masti’ and camaraderie! We take pride in our existence as the most active offshoot or our great institution!

We visit Bhopal when we can and although we maintain our own links with this beautiful city, we still want to step-up our association with this great institution. We would also want to reach out to our colleagues round the globe. Distances do not matter in the present day. Living next-door or a being few thousand miles apart makes little difference to social engagements!

Log aate gaye aur kaarvan badhta gaya……

Welcome aboard!
